‘Plan ahead’ warning as major Grimsby road project enters new phase

A key milestone in a major Grimsby road improvement programme is about to be reached.

The new road layout and roundabout is starting to take shape as part of the B1444 Little Coates/Cambridge Road junction project which started earlier this year.

A key milestone of the project – the new alignment of Cambridge Road, which includes tie-ins to the existing road, will shortly be completed.

Underground electrical diversion works on the “old” section of Cambridge Road and Little Coates Road (north) will then start from Monday, October 26 for four weeks.

There will be two-way traffic lights in place during this time on Little Coates Road and pedestrian diversions will also be in place on Cambridge Road.

Road users are being asked to plan ahead as their journeys in this area may take longer than usual during this time.

This phase will also see works take place within Capes Recreation ground, to divert drainage infrastructure, electrical equipment and start to create the new bus layby.

The temporary toucan crossing on Little Coates Road will remain in place and access to properties and businesses will be maintained.

When complete the new roundabout will replace the existing mini roundabout at the junction of Little Coates Road and Cambridge Road, which has long been a pinch-point for traffic delays during busy times of the day.

The scheme is due to be completed at the end of the year.
