North East Lincolnshire Council has issued an update on the closure of Estate Road 2, which was scheduled to have been lifted on Thursday.

Instead, the closure, which has been in place since mid-September, has been extended until October 30.

The stretch of road which runs between Grimsby’s Pyewipe roundabout and Estate Road 5, is currently undergoing carriageway and footway restructuring works.

Among the reasons for the delay, North East Lincolnshire Council cited “Covid-19 supply chain issues.”

Once the road is reopened, the planned temporary one-way system will be removed and replaced with temporary traffic signals, allowing an adequate traffic flow to be maintained.

Contractors will work in small sections at a time using cones and barriers between Estate Road 5 and Estate Road 6.

This traffic management will remain in place for the remainder of the year as works are progressed.

Engineers are also planning a full weekend road closure.

This will be in place from 6pm on Friday 6 November until 5am on Monday 9 November, and will allow for the deeper carriageway resurfacing to take place.

During the closure, a signed diversion route will be in place and advanced warning notices will be displayed.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, added:

“The businesses around Estate Road 2 have been extremely supportive and before introducing these changes, we have engaged with as many businesses as possible to ensure any operational impacts can be taken into account with these traffic management changes.

“The revised programme does provide a benefit to businesses with maintaining two-way traffic flow and this demonstrates our commitment to carrying out these vital improvements with minimal disruption to businesses in the area.”

The road is now scheduled to reopen on Saturday 31 October, but this is “subject to change,” pending the arrival of the required equipment.
