Walking in a Window Wanderland

Walking in a Window Wonderland

North East Lincolnshire Council is calling on people to brighten up their windows and take a walk through Window Wonderland in a bid to bring the community together in the run-up to Christmas.

As previously announced, the popular Christmas lights switch-on event in Cleethorpes has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, businesses, residents, schools and community groups are encouraged to get into the festive spirit and create a winter wonderland trail throughout the town to light up the dark nights.

Window Wanderland will take place between 5pm and 9pm from Thursday 10 December to Sunday 13 December. But people are welcome to keep their magical displays up throughout December if they wish.

Window Wanderland is a community project that started in Bristol in 2015 by Lucy Reeves.

The theme will be an ‘Arctic Adventure’, from a string of fairy lights to a full window display of colour, from simple to spectacular, as long as it is family-friendly, anything goes.

Councillor Callum Procter, portfolio holder for tourism, heritage and culture, said: “We are disappointed our usual Christmas lights switch-on in Cleethorpes cannot go ahead this year. But in these uncertain times, we hope this trail will bring joy to people and smiles to faces – both young and old.

“This will be a much-needed, safe event for the local community when increased isolation and mental health struggles due to COVID-19 may become tough during the dark, winter months.”

“Taking part is completely free. To sign up to become a window maker, visit www.windowwanderland.com/event/cleethorpes-2020/ or visit DiscoverNEL’s Facebook event page for more information at www.facebook.com/events/707644439945275/

Don’t forget to add your house to the downloadable interactive map, which will feature all the homes and businesses taking part in the trail.
