Grimsby MP in self-isolation after meeting with PM

Grimsby’s MP is self-isolating after being present at a Downing Street meeting with Boris Johnson and an MP who later tested positive for Covid-19.

Lia Nici is self-isolating after being at No 10 with the Prime Minister, MP Lee Anderson and other Conservative MPs last week.

Questions are now being asked about why the meeting was not conducted over Zoom.

Lia Nici said: “I have been contacted by NHS Test and Trace following a work meeting last week with Lee Anderson MP and the Prime Minister.

“As a result I will be self-isolating in line with the rules.

“I currently have no symptoms and will be working from home.”

On Thursday she posted a picture to social media stating: “In 10 Downing Street earlier to discuss all things #Grimsby, including Fishing, Educational attainment, Renewables, Employment opportunities and Covid.

“Taking your views to the heart of Government. What I was elected to do.”

The Prime Minister announced last night that he is working in self-isolation in Downing Street today after the meeting on Thursday.

Boris Johnson said he was “pinged” by NHS Test and Trace yesterday (Sunday) and told to self-isolate, as previously reported.

In a video message he urged others to “follow the rules” and self-isolate if contacted by the scheme.

He said he would observe self-isolation rules despite “following the guidance and socially distancing” during his meeting with Tory MP Lee Anderson where Grimsby‘s MP was also present.

However questions are being asked today about whether the meeting was following the Covid guidelines and whether No 10 is Covid-19 secure.

LBC presenter James O’Brien was asking listeners this morning why the meeting was not conducted over Zoom, and why no-one appeared to be wearing masks, although it is not required to wear masks at work.
