Further warnings to the public to remain vigilant

Two weeks into the lockdown period, the Leader of North Lincolnshire Council has spoken of the need to remain resolute and avoid complacency in the fight against coronavirus.

Residents across North Lincolnshire are being urged to follow the national restrictions to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and protect their community.

Cllr Rob Waltham, said:

“The rate is not to where we need it to be”.

“We are two weeks into the four weeks of lockdown and at the rate we are going we may still be in tier three when 3 December comes – that is not where we want to be”.

“If the number of people contracting Covid-19 does not drop then it makes it very difficult to do anything other than a continuation of some form of significant restrictions”.

“This is not inevitable though, if people stick to the rules, that will drive the infection rate down and we will be in a much better position”.

“What we do today, tomorrow and everyday in the coming couple of weeks will have an impact on the position we will be in at the end of the four week lockdown”.

“That, sadly, translates to Christmas – what we do today will impact on how we will be able to celebrate with family and friends”.

“If we look at the where the majority of cases are it appears to be in the working age population“.

“We understand it can be difficult in some circumstances and that we have been in this position now for many months but we just need to hang on in there for a little while longer”.

“Now is not the time for complacency”.

Please always remember to keep your distance, wash your hands and wear a face covering.
