Competitive Christmas fun in the fresh air

With worries that we might not be celebrating the festive period as usual this year, Christmas has been on everyone’s mind this week.

So, there is more reason than ever to spread some cheer where you can.

National Illumination Street Week takes place from 7th to 13th December 2020 and all are encouraged to join in and spread Christmas spirit.

Illumination Street is a competition with £5,000 worth of British Garden Centre group gift vouchers up for grabs, which highlights the passion, flair and effort invested into front gardens around Britain on the build up to Christmas.

The competition inspires both adults and children to use their imagination with their front gardens and homes during the festive holidays.

With the hopes to allow people who have been locked down for months in these strange times, a fun and festive time out in the fresh air.

The project encourages outdoor garden displays bursting with creativity to, quite literally, illuminate Christmas spirit for the whole community.

David Domoney, the competition’s ambassador and pioneer, has 40 years’ experience in horticulture and is thrilled to have launched this campaign for festive front gardens.

David says:

“It’s a perfect campaign to recognise and celebrate the great spirit we experience during the Christmas period”.

“I remember as a child, neighbours would leave their curtains open to show the lights on the Christmas tree to passers-by and as kids it was magical to see”.

“We want to encourage and inspire the nation to brighten up their front gardens and streets this Christmas”.

Working in partnership with British Garden Centres, the competition brings Christmas activities to people of all ages and inspires them to take part in lighting up Britain streets.
