A magical, recycled Christmas kingdom awaits visitors to Grimsby Community Recycling Centre.

Magical Winter Wonderland awaits - at the tip!

Staff at the tip have given the site a festive, junk model makeover.

Most of the decorations are made using old tyres, traffic cones, drinks cans and other bits and pieces found at the site.

A tall, green Christmas tree greets visitors at the site entrance. Standing next to the tree is a snowman and an elf along with some of the ‘Binion’ characters made earlier in the year.

There’s a trio of camels from a school nativity play and a pair of reindeer made from logs.

Sharon Hunt, operations director at Newlincs Development Ltd, said: “We are very pleased with the response we have had from members of the general public in relation to the Christmas decorations.

“The guys on site have really enjoyed dreaming up imaginative Christmas ideas, and are really proud of the Christmas tree outside the site.”

Troy Grady, decorations director at the CRC, said: “All the lads on site have had great fun getting the site ready for Christmas as we really wanted to cheer everyone up visiting the site with it being such a difficult year. We still have some more ideas but hopefully the site decorations will be completed in the next week or so.”

Troy added: “We use anything that comes in. You’d be surprised how many Christmas decorations get tipped at the CRC, so we recycle them. Everything we’ve used is recycled and we’ve made absolutely stunning decorations for the whole site.

“The team we’ve got are working so hard to make sure everyone’s happy this year, which we need, which everyone needs. It’s Christmas, come on!”

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport at the Council, added: “My thanks to all the staff for what they have done to try and bring a bit of cheer to the town during these difficult times.”

Grimsby and Immingham CRCs are open every day (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day) from 8am to 6pm and 8am to 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Both sites are run by North East Lincolnshire Council’s waste management contractor Newlincs Development Ltd.
