Bin collections to change over Christmas and New Year
North East Lincolnshire residents are reminded that their bin days might change over Christmas and New Year, with some collections delayed by four days.
Planned collection dates have been published and householders have been told that if the crews don’t get to them on the day listed, they should take in their bins or boxes and put them out before 7am the next collection day.
Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “Waste and recycling collection dates change during the Christmas holiday.
“We’re sending a booklet to households in the borough to let people know about the changes. Check your dates at www.nelincs.gov.uk/bins.
“The booklet also includes a handy guide to recycling and changes we’re introducing next year, as well as information about the Community Recycling Centres and our bulky waste service.”
He continued: “Our crews will be busier than ever this Christmas, they deal with about 500 more tonnes of waste and recycling than they usually do. It could be even higher this year as more people are staying at home.
“Please be patient. Our staff will do everything they can to cope with the extra demand, but the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and other problems such as bad weather could cause some disruption.”
Visit www.nelincs.gov.uk/refuse-collection-schedule/ to check your collection date and look out for the Christmas collections leaflet arriving in your letterbox this week.
The council will post messages about major service disruption on its website and share information with local media and on its social media accounts.
Community Recycling Centres are open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, from 8am to 6pm and 8am to 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. (Pictured is the tip in Grimsby.)
