By Next phase of Cleethorpes regeneration set to complete before new tourism season
The re-modelling of Cleethorpes’ street scene continues next week, with the next phase of work part of the regeneration of the Sea Road area.
The continuation of this work, making the area pedestrian-friendly with better connections between the promenades and town centre, follows previous public feedback.
It centres upon the replacement of the temporary mini-roundabout outside The Pier, the installation of a central island near the new Alexandra Road roundabout and new paving works on both sides of Sea Road to meet that which has already been done.
Vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout with temporary traffic lights used to control traffic as and when required.
This phase of the project is due to be completed by Spring 2021, ahead of the new tourism season.
Planning permission has already been secured for a building on the high-profile site at the heart of the resort, which will also house important visitor facilities.
The whole Sea Road project is supported by £1m funding from the Local Growth Fund, secured by the Humber LEP as part of the Government’s commitment to the Northern Powerhouse, with the remainder from the Council’s capital and Local Transport Plan funds.
North East Lincolnshire Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for regeneration, Cllr John Fenty said:
“I want to assure people that we are actively looking at ways in which we can use the site to offer significant benefit to Cleethorpes as this is a prime area in the resort and one which we are sure will be very popular”.
“In the meantime, the continuation of work in this area to improve the street scene will be very welcome as we enter 2021 and look towards the new season”.
