Small change in local hospitals’ Covid cases

Hospitals across the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Health NHS health trust are treating just a few less Covid inpatients in total than a week ago.

As of this morning, there are 157 coronavirus inpatients across Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole – 64 at Grimsby, 89 at Scunthorpe and four at Goole. Of these, three are in ICU – two at Grimsby and one at Scunthorpe.

A week ago the total figure was 163 patients, however Scunthorpe has seen a rise of two since then, with Grimsby seeing a drop of seven.

Last Monday there were 71 at Grimsby, 87 at Scunthorpe and five at Goole. Of these, nine were in ICU – six at Grimsby and three at Scunthorpe.

And the week before there were 185 inpatients in total – 90 at Scunthorpe, 90 at Grimsby and five at Goole.

Dr Kate Wood, Medical Director, said there was always a time lag between a drop in infections in the community being reflected in a drop in hospital admissions.

She added: “We are starting to see a reduction in the number of Covid-19 positive cases but our hospitals remain very busy. Now is not the time to be complacent though and we are reviewing the number of cases on a daily basis.”

The council’s latest epidemiology report showed North East Lincolnshire had the 16th highest weekly rate of Covid-19 cases in England – however the daily number of new cases was falling significantly, as reported last week.

It showed a total of 5,166 residents of North East Lincolnshire had had a confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19 which was an increase of 346 cases over the last week (compared with 652 new cases reported the previous week).
