Fancy dress shop announces closure due to Covid

The well-known Twinkles Fancy Dress shop in Cleethorpes is to close due to the effects of the pandemic.

Run by husband and wife team Kath and Andy Darker, it is one of the largest costume hire shops in the UK and has been trading for 23 years.

The couple announced they will shut their doors for the final time in March and aim to retire.

They confirmed it was due to the effects of lockdown and said it was with sadness that they had made the closure announcement.

The business is run from the prominent art deco building that incorporates a ballroom on Grimsby Road, at the bottom of Isaac’s Hill, and has rented and sold costumes for parties, the Cleethorpes parade, school history days, theatrical productions, dance festivals, Halloween, and much more.

A clearance sale is now taking place.

The news was met with disappointment on social media.

One person said: “Sad to hear this news. Your shop was an institution for all fun lovers.”

While another said: “Oh I’m so so sorry to hear this. Terrible time for small businesses.”
