Tier 3 remains in place for most regions in the UK

More areas to face toughest coronavirus restrictions

Tier 3 remains in place for most regions in the UK

Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, has announced that almost all Tier 3 areas will remain at their current level of restrictions – but a wider area of east and southeast England will move up to the most severe measures.

From Saturday, the following areas will be moved up into Tier 3:

  • Bedfordshire
  • Buckinghamshire
  • Berkshire
  • Peterborough
  • Hertfordshire
  • Surrey (with the exception of Waverly)
  • Hastings and Rother
  • Portsmouth
  • Havant
  • Gosport

The government has issued several warnings around Christmas over the last few days so very few areas were moved out of Tier 3.

However, Mr Hancock did state that Bristol and North Somerset will move down from Tier 3 to Tier 2.

Herefordshire will move from Tier 2 to Tier 1.

The first review of the tiered system of restrictions comes ahead of the Christmas relaxations, which have recently been a cause for debate between officials.
