Scunthorpe town centre to benefit from £10.7m development

The Government has backed a future vision for Scunthorpe high street to benefit from the funding. Scunthorpe town centre is to benefit from £10.7m development by redeveloping the former market site in the heart of the town centre.

The Future High Streets Fund was launched in December 2018 and is a key part of the Government’s plan to renew and reshape town centres – making them a more attractive place to live, work and visit.

Its plans include to redevelop business space, student accommodation, networking areas and major changes to the public spaces in the old market facilities, Church Square and surrounding Scunthorpe Central library.

The plans would see further redeveloped to create spaces to provide places to play, exercise and relax along with a dedicated events space for a range of functions, festivals and exhibitions to bringing a buzz to the town centre – including a pop-up mall with independent traders and recognised brands side by side to create a unique shopping destination.
