Grimsby dad recovers from Covid

Grimsby man recovers from Covid after almost two weeks in hospital and returns home to be reunited with his family.

David Wood, 65, started feeling unwell on Christmas Eve with flu-like symptoms and loss of appetite.

After a week his breathing rapidly declined making him unable to breathe properly.

He booked an appointment with his GP after his breathing deteriorated who stated he must go to A&E immediately.

His daughter, Jodie Wood, 28, took Mr Wood to the hospital as soon as he got the news from his GP.

Due to the pandemic no family are allowed into the emergency department at this time and tests proved all symptoms were in fact Covid-19.

Statistics show 31 – 40 percent of people suffer breathing difficulties with the virus which is higher in adults than children.

He was admitted to C1 upon his positive Covid result.

In severe cases breathing difficulties allow oxygen levels to drop, if oxygen levels dip to around 80 percent or lower, there’s an increased risk of damage to vital organs.

Family and friends were able to ring and text, however due to new guidelines and restrictions his daughter and partner were only able to drop and collect belongings at the ward door.

After numerous nights in the hospital his condition improved greatly, he was discharged and reunited with his family.

Jodie Wood, David’s daughter said: “It was a very worrying time whilst he was there especially with no visiting, but we always felt reassured that he was in the best hands.”

“We would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at DPOW, from the first admission to being on a ward they couldn’t have done anymore for my dad.”

Mr Wood says: “I will be eternally grateful. They are under so much pressure yet go above and beyond to care for the patients.”

“I would like to say a special thank you to Charlotte Southern, a nurse on C1, she is incredibly talented, caring and will always be grateful for her care that she gave.”
