Housing first scheme to provide 4 homes to rough sleepers

A new start for four rough sleepers in our area.

Housing first scheme to provide 4 homes to rough sleepers

YMCA Humber’s Housing First Scheme is providing four homes and intensive support for four people who are in need.

This scheme will assist homeless people in North East Lincolnshire.

Housing First is a supported housing scheme that provides accommodation and support to homeless people with high needs and histories of entrenched or repeat homelessness.

The scheme provides a stable home and intensive personalised support first, rather than requiring the person to be ‘tenancy ready’ before accommodating them.

YMCA Housing First then uses this as a platform to address the issues that caused them to be homeless.

The only condition is that they are willing to work with us to maintain the tenancy.

Anyone who has a history of entrenched or repeated homelessness is eligible.

YMCA have said: “Clients are referred to us via North East Lincolnshire Council’s Homelessness Prevention Team.”

“Support may include: support around reducing harmful behaviour, accessing physical and mental health services, and increasing self esteem and confidence, as well as maintaining healthy relationships and integrating into their communities.”

The Housing First scheme is the first in North East Lincolnshire, although other supported housing providers already accept homeless clients with high needs.
