More people this weekend have broken lockdown restrictions

Over the weekend police discovered more than 70 people partying on a boat in west London in breach of coronavirus lockdown measures.

It comes as more people this weekend have broken lockdown restrictions Nationwide. Police are handing out more fixed penalty notices in an attempt to tackle mass gatherings.

This included an illegal house party in Essex where 18 people were caught and fined nearly £15,000.

In Merseyside, 19 gym-goers who were found in Shred Fast Gym in Aintree at 10.30pm on Saturday and were also handed fixed penalty notices this weekend.

On Sunday 3.15am, officers found around 200 people at the Richmond Hotel in Liverpool city centre where four parties were going on, the force said.

Norfolk Police has released a list of 55 “blatant” lockdown breaches, including a man who travelled from Bristol to Norfolk to walk his dog.

Illegal parties and gatherings on the rise

People who drove more than 200 miles to visit friends in Wales and a group having a party in a garden shed were among those caught breaching restrictions in Wales.

Priti Patel said: “The science is clear: such irresponsible behaviour poses a significant threat to public health.

“Not only to those in attendance but to our wonderful police officers who attend these events to shut them down.

Police forces across the UK have broken up parties, meet-ups and fined people for visiting beauty spots this weekend despite lockdown rules.
