Local charities are the ‘unsung heroes’ of the pandemic

They continue to provide great work to help local people behind closed doors

During the global coronavirus crisis, many charities are facing financial difficulties and struggling to deliver much needed support to our communities in our area and across the UK. Here are some of the many local charities helping us through the pandemic.

The Forge Project

The Forge Project supports homeless and vulnerable people in our area. It supports people by offering breakfast, hot drinks, lunch, showering/laundry facilities, clean clothing, sleeping bags. Support Workers refer, signpost and advocate for clients to housing/other agencies, attend multi-agency meetings, working with them to acquire permanent housing. Staff work collaboratively with users to reflect on the challenges in their lives, using a strengths-based approach, meeting their needs and determining their desired outcomes.

CRUSE Scunthorpe

Cruse Scunthorpe provides advice, information and support to anyone who has been bereaved, children, young people and adults, whenever or however the death occurred. The service is provided by trained, experienced volunteers, and is confidential and free.

Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire

VANL’s purposes are the advancement of education, the protection of health and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness. These aims are pursued by bringing together voluntary and statutory organisations in Council and by encouraging co-operation between organisations. Throughout the pandemic it has helped through digital inclusion and identifying gaps in service provision in the local area to help those who are vulnerable. VANL have also supported voluntary services in funding opportunities to keep them running and helping people throughout the pandemic.
