Police said 30 collisions and 18 hazards reported in three hours

Lincolnshire Police Force Control Room stated due to snow and ice thirty collisions and eighteen hazards were already reported between 7am and 9am.

Due to ice and snow there have been numerous disruptions to routes today where police, NHS staff and fire services have all warned to be aware of hazards when travelling.

Lincolnshire Police’s Force Control Room, tweeted: “Since 0700hrs we have taken reports of 30 collisions and 18 hazards on roads that have occured all across Lincolnshire – please allow extra time for travelling today.”

Humberside Fire and Rescue said: “If you are making an essential journey today, please take extra care as snow turns to slush and then to ice this evening.”

“Be extra vigilant on untreated roads and slow down.”

More reports of incidents and hazards have flowed through the day.

Each year, 24 percent of weather-related vehicle crashes occur on snowy, slushy or icy pavement and 15 percent happen during snowfall or sleet.

Allow for more time than you normally would before you leave to clear car windows, mirrors, lights and the top of your roof of snow before setting off, driving with snow on your car could result in you breaking the law.

Emergency services are also urging drivers to check their wheels, screen wipers and screen wash before setting off on a journey.
