By News that the Government is to boost services helping victims of domestic abuse in North Lincolnshire has been warmly welcomed.
The council will use the funding to provide life-saving support for victims and their children in safe accommodation. A share of £125m has been allocated to local authorities across the country.
This will involve providing services such as therapy, advocacy and counselling in safe accommodation, including refuges.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, welcomed news of the funding.
He said: “This money will ensure victims of domestic abuse and their children are able to access even more support and assistance. We know accessing safe accommodation is a crucial step in supporting them to recover and rebuild their lives.
The money will also fund a new duty on councils to ensure victims and their children are able to access life-saving support in safe accommodation, part of the Government’s forthcoming Domestic Abuse Bill.
Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children and families, said: “Tackling domestic abuse with partners remains one of our top priorities.
“Recent restrictions and the lockdown have made the need for safe accommodation for victims even more important – this money will help us enhance the existing service which we know is vital.”
Announcing the funding, Minister for Rough Sleeping and Housing, Eddie Hughes MP, said: “Domestic abuse is a heinous crime which threatens the lives of victims in their own homes where they should feel safe.
“So it’s right that we’re giving victims support in safe accommodation and providing councils with money to deliver essential services that will help them and their children rebuild their lives.”
