What to expect from Boris Johnson’s road map out of lockdown

What to expect from Boris Johnson’s road map out of Covid lockdown.

Boris Johnson is due to unveil his much-anticipated road map for easing lockdown restrictions in England.

The Prime Minister is expected to set out a three-stage plan on how the country will leave the national lockdown in a press conference this evening.

The official announcement will take place in the House of Commons at 3.30pm.

The Prime Minister will then speak to the nation in a televised address at 7pm, according to reports.

Outdoor meet-ups between two separate households could happen by Easter as the first step toward relaxing gathering rules, according to The Sun and The Telegraph.

Hairdressers and pubs may have to wait until the end of April to reopen, the newspapers report.

Boris Johnson has called the reopening of schools in England “a priority”.

The phased reopening of schools in Scotland and Wales has already been announced. But the role schools have played in the spread of the virus is not clear-cut.

Most of the nation’s school children have been learning remotely since the end of the Christmas holidays.

GCSE, AS and A level exams will not go ahead as planned in 2021, with teachers estimating pupils’ grades instead.

Primary school SATs will not go ahead this year, nor will phonics or timetable testing.

It is also believed that the Prime Minister will touch upon outdoor gatherings, currently in England you are only able to exercise outdoors with one other person.

Sage has said (with “high confidence”) that outdoor gatherings have a low impact on transmission.

Holidays and travel is another subject in which many of us are apprehensive to hear about.

However it seems unlikely that any changes to self-catering holidays would coincide with the reopening of the broader hospitality sector just yet sadly.
