Docks Beers release Grimsby Town inspired beer

Docks Beers have today released a new beer and a limited edition glass to celebrate the change in fortunes of Grimsby Town FC.

The beer, called ‘Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Fish’, pays homage to the chant that Town supporters have made famous in football grounds around the UK, from Stamford Bridge to Wembley.

Jack Johnson, Marketing Manager at Docks Beers, explains why they have chosen to release a GTFC-themed beer:

“The Mariners are our local club and they are close to the hearts of so many of our staff and customers.

“The team and fans have been through the wringer on the pitch and off it over the last few months, but with the first win of 2021 under our belt and the real possibility of new ownership very soon, things finally seem to be on the up!

“It feels like there’s no better time to toast the future of the black and whites and we wanted to accentuate the positive with this beer.

“We have our fingers and toes crossed that Paul Hurst and his players can lead us to safety this season and that we’ll be singing this chant in the Football League for many more seasons to come!”

Following the team’s victory over Crawley Town FC on Tuesday – their first win in ten matches – the brewery dropped off some cases of the new beer for the team’s journey home from Harrogate Town on Saturday.

Longstanding club favourite, goalkeeper James Mckeown, was lucky enough to try the beer ahead of launch:

“The can design looks cool and the beer tastes great.  It was awesome of the Docks Beers team to drop off some samples for the team.

“We look forward to a couple of cans after the match on Saturday. Let’s hope the result against Harrogate warrants a celebratory drink”.

The beer is a 4.2% hazy session pale ale and Mike Richards, the Head Brewer at Docks Beers, describes it as:

“Juicy, hop-forward pale ale, that’s low in bitterness and has vast quantities of Simcoe, Hallertau Blanc and Cryo Cascade hops which deliver a tropical fruit hit with every sip.

“The wheat in the grist adds to the haze, drinkability and offers a mouthfeel to savour.”

To accompany the beer, Docks Beers have also produced a glass that includes the ‘Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Fish’ slogan and the geometric fish pattern from the can artwork designed by Grimsby-based agency Source 4.

A video campaign starring some of the club’s legendary ex-players has been launched on Docks Beers’ social media channels.

The 330ml cans of ‘Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Fish’ and the glass are now both available from docksbeers.com or the taproom shop on King Edward Street, which opens 12pm until 6pm from Wednesday to Saturday.
