Scunthorpe urban park progress so far

Work to transform Church Square on Scunthorpe High Street into an urban park is progressing at pace following the injection of Government cash.

Part of Scunthorpe town centre will be transformed into an urban park after £1 million Government funding was awarded to help kick-start the area’s economic recovery.

It comes as Scunthorpe was named as one of a small number of places across the country to be given a £1 million advance from the Government’s Towns Fund for projects aimed at responding to immediate challenges presented by the coronavirus crisis.

North Lincolnshire Council

In a further boost for employment in North Lincolnshire, Scunthorpe-based construction company Britcon was appointed to carry out the work, which will create an attractive park in the cultural heart of the town centre.

The ambitious transformation will benefit visitors to 20-21 Visual Arts Centre and Scunthorpe Central Library, as well as students who attend the UTC.

The work has been backed by Government investment received as part of the £3.6bn Towns Fund initiative, and precedes the £10m funding boost to redevelop the former market site as part of the Future High Streets fund.
