Parents given right to appeal over secondary school places

The parents of 1,951 primary school age children in North East Lincolnshire have been assured of their right to appeal after 11.69% were not offered their first choice school.

88.31% of children in North East Lincolnshire were accepted by their first choice, while 6.92% were offered their 2nd choice, and 1.69% were allocated their 3rd choice.

3.08% were not offered any of their preferred schools.

Many parents have were notifications of the allocations via email or text.

Councillor Ian Lindley, North East Lincolnshire Council’s portfolio holder for children and education, said:

“The allocation of school places is a complex task and can be an emotive time for families.

“I am happy that the vast majority of pupils have been allocated their first preference.

“To those parents and carers who have not received their preferred school, they will be sent advice and information on how to appeal.”
