‘Stay at home even if you’ve been vaccinated’

That’s the message from Downing Street which has urged people to continue to respect the lockdown after an Office for National Statistics (ONS) survey (see 10.02 post) suggested more than four in 10 over-80s who received a coronavirus vaccine appear to have since broken the rules.

The prime minister’s official spokesman said: “It’s important that people continue to follow the guidelines that are in place.”

Boris Johnson has appealed for over-80s to continue observing lockdown restrictions after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine after a new study found more than 40 per cent had breached them.

According to a survey released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 43 per cent of the 2.6 million over-80s who have received at least their first jab admitted meeting someone not in their household or support bubble indoors.

Furlough extension partly because “things might change” with roadmap, chancellor says.

While infections across the country have fallen by two thirds since January, some areas are showing worrying trends.

There was no change in Covid prevalence in in Yorkshire and The Humber between the January and February reports, while cases had risen slightly in London, the South East, East Midlands and the West Midlands.

Steven Riley, professor of infectious disease dynamics at Imperial College London, said between January and February there was a “substantial drop” in cases across all regions of the country.

But he added: “The prevalence of swab positivity in England continues to fall but the rate of decline has slowed and there are some areas where prevalence may be increasing.

“In London the rate of decline certainly appears to have stopped and there is a possible signature there that it may be going up.”
