Waste and recycling collection days in North East Lincolnshire are set to change from Monday 8 March.

Collection dates were kept the same during the roll out of the borough’s new recycling bins as a temporary measure.

But now, collections will be switched to a four-weekly schedule.

A new bin day calendar, which has been published online and posted to all households in the borough, states that the collection of the new recycling bins will be monthly instead of fortnightly.

The green standard waste bin will be collected every fortnight as normal, and the grey and blue recycling bins will be emptied on alternate fortnights.

According to North East Lincolnshire Council, this latest update makes the rounds “more efficient” by reducing the time the Council’s vehicles are on the roads and keeps running costs down.

As well as changing the rounds, the Council also has plans to accept a wider range of plastic in the grey recycling bin.

You can now use the bin for plastic pots, tubs and trays. Black plastics are non recyclable and will still go in your green bin.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn said:

“We’re now delivering on the second stage of our project to revolutionise waste recycling collections in North East Lincolnshire.

“From 8 March 2021, we’re introducing new collection rounds to make them more efficient and accepting plastic pots, tubs and trays in the grey recycling bin.

“When we finished consulting on our waste strategy last year, the most strongly supported option for recycling collections was two recycling bins collected monthly.

“People also told us they wanted to recycle more types of plastic.

“We listened to what people told us and we’re now making that happen.

“The third and final stage of the project is to start a weekly food waste trial on one of our rounds later in the spring.

“We’ll use the information and experience gathered from this pilot to support the Government’s plans to introduce mandatory weekly food waste collections in England by 2023.

“We’re already seeing big increases in the amounts of recycling we collect since we introduced the new bins.

“I’d like to thank everyone who is making the effort to waste less and recycle more.”
