The machine is one of two being installed at the hospital as part of an £8.4m redevelopment.
Pictures tweeted by Jug Johal, Director of Estates and Facilities at NLaG NHS Foundation Trust, show the MRI scanner arriving on site, and highlight the small gap staff had to get it in through.
Mr Johal wrote:
“Our first of two new MRI scanners have arrived onsite at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby.
“I hope the hole is big enough!”
Discussing the redevelopment, he said:
“This is an exciting development for all of us here at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital and fantastic news for patients.
“Along with the development works being carried out on our A&E Department at Scunthorpe General Hospital, this represents a significant investment for the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG).
“The new department will ensure that we are able to offer the highest levels of patient care and service both now and in the future.
“Patients will be able to begin their care and treatment more quickly, in an environment which meets the needs of both them and our clinical teams.”
Retweeting Mr Johal’s images, NLaG Digital Services added:
“1 of 2 new MRIs delivered today! These will now be supercooled to -272°c over the course of many days.
“Our Network & Systems teams will make sure monitoring systems work and images from these scanners get to clinicians who need them.”
