Officers to knock on doors of those who didn’t complete Census from today

Everyone in the country was required by law to complete the 2021 National Census yesterday.

Doing so would give the Office for National Statistics (ONS) an accurate and up-to-date picture of the makeup of our communities.

From today, census officers will be knocking on doors up and down England and Wales of those who did not complete the national survey.

The ONS have recruited 29,000 members of staff in total to carry out the home visits.

All of these officers are required to carry official identification cards, which include a photograph of the officer and their name.

Officers will work through the day to contact residents, but will not call before 9am or after 8pm.

If anyone is concerned that the person on their doorstep isn’t a census officer, they can call the number on the critical workers letter that the officer can show them.

Officers will never ask for money or bank details at any point during the conversation.

The census officers are classed as key workers, and cannot carry out their role by working from home.

They are required to adhere to social distancing requirements and wear masks. They will never enter anyone’s home.
