Upcoming road closures on Frederick Ward Way as Grimsby regeneration work continues

Two sets of regeneration work will be taking place along Frederick Ward Way within the next week, with closures of the road essential for workers to complete the work quickly and effectively.

On Thursday and Friday (March 25 and 26), a section of the carriageway will be closed to allow pedestrians to use it as a footway, instead of the main footpath on the Riverhead side of the road, which will also be closed.

This is to allow the installation of a lighting column close to the Riverhead leisure outlets, which include Pure Gym and Captain’s Cove. Access to these venues will also be restricted.

Next Monday, Frederick Ward Way will be closed for four nights to allow carriageway improvements and the installation of high friction surfacing.

The road closures will be put in place between 7:30pm to 5:30am from Monday 29 March to Friday 2 April.

Vehicle diversions will be clearly marked via Alexandra Road and Corporation Road. The long-term diversion for pedestrians will remain in place.

The new high friction surfacing will be applied around the traffic lights and pedestrian crossings between the new Garth Lane bridge and Riverhead/Victoria Street South.

This work is part of the £3.5m regeneration of the entire Garth Lane area, supported by £1.3m secured by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership as part of the Northern Powerhouse, and the funding released as a result of the Grimsby Town Deal.

North East Lincolnshire Council is reminding people to follow all the marked diversions in the area as the Garth Lane regeneration work continues.
