For many, getting outdoors and running has helped them, but one local club in-particular cannot wait to be able to meet back up with friends and enjoy the sport they all thrive!
The club has finally had the go ahead that they can meet up Tuesday 13th April 6:30p.m – and it can’t come soon enough.
Malcolm Marshall, SADAC chairman said “The Club was able to meet last summer, but numbers were down on previous years. Many members felt they could not turn up as they were worried about catching the virus and introducing it to their family and or into their workplace.
“Many members have found running has helped maintain their physical and mental health during the pandemic. Some members have caught Covid-19 and found it has taken them a long time to recover. Most of the races over the summer and backend of last year were cancelled, which meant many members felt demotivated. The club had to cancelled its summer series Time Trials and the annual 10K race held every July.”
Club secretary, Tom Wood said “The Club has tried to keep peoples spirits up, organising virtual events and encouraging each other through the Club Facebook page or Strava, but there is no substitute for physical contact. The most recent challenge was a monthly milage challenge, club members competed virtually in two teams throughout March and collectively managed to run just under 9000 miles.”
The Club has around 100 members but membership last year was down on previous years due to the limited events we were able to organise.
Malcolm added “The club caters for adult runners of all abilities, speed is not important, the only criteria is that you want to run. Our members vary from those who just want to chat and get a bit of exercise, to those who are continually looking to improve their performance.
“In normal times we would just advise people to turn up on a Tuesday or Thursday evening at about 6:20 at the back of Brumby Hall. This gives us a bit of time to chat to the prospective members and find out what kind of running experience they have, and ensure they are looked after. Due to Covid-19 restrictions we would advise people to contact myself on (chairsadacroadsection@gmail.com) or Secretary Tom (secsadacroad@gmail.com) before attending a session. All sessions are led by UKA accredited and CRB checked Coaches and Run Leaders.”
