Work at Scunthorpe General Hospital car park starts today

Today work starts on the new decked car park at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

To do this safely, the area has been closed (outside the renal unit off Church Ln) which means there will be fewer public spaces on the site until the new car park is finished in July.
Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust said “While the work is being done, we’d be grateful if those of you who are able to do so take a bus, taxi, get dropped off or make use of our park and ride scheme.
“We appreciate that this won’t be possible for everyone but by making alternative arrangements if you can, this will help us make sure priority is given to those who really need it.
“If you do need to come by car, the remaining public car parking spaces are next to the maternity unit, off Church Ln and our outpatients’ building off Cliff Gardens. We apologise for the disruption whilst the work is being done but we hope you agree that it will be worth it in the end.”

There are plans to make significant improvements to Scunthorpe General Hospital, creating a number of new, purpose-built facilities, alongside an extensive refurbishment programme in our existing buildings.

At the heart of the project are exciting plans to create a new multi-million pound Emergency Department using funding from the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England.

The £30 million funding for this programme has been secured and work is already underway, following planning permission being granted in late March for this scheme.

In addition, a new single-storey deck public car park is being created off the Church Lane entrance to the site.

The first step will be to build the new single-storey decked car park on the public car park outside the renal unit (car park three) on the Church Lane side of the site.

The upper deck will be a new staff parking area for those with on-site barrier permits, with public car parking on the ground level.
