Nearly £8,000 raised for funeral of tragic Adam Barber

Nearly £8,000 has been raised for the funeral of 21-year-old Adam Barber, who tragically passed away after he collapsed in Cleethorpes on Monday 12 April.

Officers and paramedics attended the scene at around 7.15pm.

Mr Barber, who was from Grimsby, was taken to hospital in an ambulance, but passed away a short time later.

A statement from Humberside Police said: “A man was reported to have collapsed in the street and there was concern for his welfare and safety. Emergency services attended immediately and took a 21-year-old man to hospital for treatment.

“Sadly the man passed away in hospital. The man’s family have been informed of his death and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our sympathies are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.

“The circumstances of the man’s death are not thought to be suspicious and enquiries will continue to establish the cause of his passing.”

After the tragic news broke, a JustGiving page was set up by Old Clee Sewell FC to raise £1,500 for Adam’s funeral.

The page reads: “As many of you will know, on Monday 12 April our good friend Adam “Melon” Barber unexpectedly passed away in a tragic accident. This news has left both Melon’s family and friends devastated and heartbroken.

“Melon leaves behind a fantastic, loving family who he adored and loved with all of his heart.

“Melon was one of a kind, a fantastic lad who always had a smile on his face and always did his best to ensure others did too. His brilliant sense of humour and infectious laugh always made everyone who knew him smile.

“We have this created this page in a bid to support Melon’s family at this sad time to help towards funeral costs and to support them as they cope with their loss. We ask for support from everyone who knew Melon to help raise funds to give him the send off he deserves.”

Over the course of just a few days, nearly £8,000 has been raised by just under 370 supporters.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to all those who knew Adam.
