The Queen releases message on her 95th birthday thanking public for support

The Queen has released a message to the public on her 95th birthday to thank the general public for their ‘support and kindness’ following the death of her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

The message reads: “I have, on the occasion of my 95th birthday today, received many messages of good wishes, which I very much appreciate.

“While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and to hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world.

“My family and I would like to thank you for all the support and kindness shown to us in recent days. We have been deeply touched, and continue to be reminded that Philip had such an extraordinary impact on countless people throughout his life.”

The Queen’s birthday falls less than two weeks after the death of Prince Philip.

She is expected to mark the occasion in a private and low-key fashion. No photograph celebrating the day is expected to be released this year.

Prince Philip passed away on the morning of Friday 9 April at Windsor Castle at 99 years of age.

His funeral took place on Saturday, with 30 people in attendance due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The public are invited to send a birthday message to the Queen using this form.
