Doncaster Council have condemned the ‘mindless violence’ which saw a young tree snapped in half in park in Doncaster.

The authority shared a photo of the destroyed sapling, which had been planted by the council, on Town Fields.

Speaking via Facebook, a spokesperson for the council commented:

“We’re sad to say that unbelievably it’s happened again – this mindless violence was reported to us over the weekend.
“PLEASE always report this kind of environmental crime, especially if you see any suspicious behaviour.”
A group of volunteers called Friends of Town Fields has spent the last several weeks working to improve the area, and has worked to protect a number of new trees.
But sadly, this is just one of a number of similar incidents which have taken place around the city
Public responses have varied, with several locals expressing concern over the lack of enforcement and CCTV coverage.
“‘Bout time you started deploying your enforcement out of normal working hours and making a concerted, targeted effort to catch this offender,” said one social media user.
Doncaster Council has urged anyone with information to report the culprits.
