Sheridan Smith to take on new TV drama

Epworth’s very own Sheridan Smith has a role in new psychological drama on channel 5!

The new TV drama aims to tell the story of Jenna, played by Sheridan, a teacher whose life falls apart after being accused of a drunken sexual encounter with one of her pupils.

Speaking about the decision to cast the Cilla actor, Mike Benson, managing director of production company Clapperboard, says: “When we first developed Teacher we had Sheridan in mind as someone who could bring empathy and complexity to the character of Jenna, so the fact she has agreed to come on board is hugely exciting.”

The four-part psychological series has been created by Barunka O’Shaughnessy, whose previous credits include several episodes of Motherland, and Cold Call’s Mike Benson.

Filming for Teacher has already began and it is set to transmit on Channel 5 later this year.

Sheridan confirmed filming had finished with a sweet photo with fellow actor David Fleeshman – who plays her dad. Taking to Instagram, she wrote: Me and @rfleeshman ‘s lovely talented dad! Playing my pretend dad! What a great actor to finish a great job with x #teacher.”
