Conservative Jonathan Evison wins role of Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner

Jonathan Evison has won the role of Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) from Labour’s Keith Hunter.

Mr Evison – who is also Mayor of North Lincolnshire – defeated Mr Hunter after a second round of votes was counted at Bridlington Spa.

He won 74,534 votes in total, compared to former PCC Mr Hunter’s 71,615.

The Conservative candidate came in as a last-minute replacement following the previous candidate Craig Ulliott standing down.

Mr Evison, a former steel worker, appeared on the ballot paper after Mr Ulliott stepped down in March “for personal reasons”.

A statement about Jonathan Evison on the website Choose My PCC reads: “His priorities if elected are more police on the streets; making sure they are professionally trained and motivated to protect the public and bring offenders to justice.

“To tackle drugs and antisocial behaviour while maintaining strong support for victims of crime and to improve access to the police with easier reporting of crime.

“He has also pledged to engage with the public and communities and is open to supporting and developing community initiatives and events.”

Following strong Conservative support in Northern Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire, Mr Evison’s victory was secured.

Keith Hunter was elected to be the Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside Police in 2016.
