Police searching house after making arrest in Julia James murder investigation

Police are searching a house in connection with the murder of PCSO Julia James, 53, whose body was found bludgeoned to death in Kent woodland.

Mrs James’ body was discovered last Tuesday on a footpath near her home after she went out to walk her dog and never returned home.

A suspect in the murder, a man in his twenties from Canterbury, was arrested at 9.30pm on Friday and is currently being questioned by police.

On Friday evening, they began searching his house, which is located around 0.4 miles away from where Mrs James’ body was found.

Kent Police said: “A search at a property in Sunshine Corner Avenue, Aylesham is linked to enquiries being made in relation to the murder of Julia James.

“There is no further guidance at this stage.”

This comes after Kent Police released an image of the suspect, urging the public to come forward if they knew where he was and saying it was “crucially important” for him to be found.

The police then tweeted: “We are no longer appealing for information regarding the man in the image released as part of the investigation into the death of Julia James.

“Thanks to everyone who responded to our appeal.”

Julia, a mother of two, died from significant head injuries. Her dog stayed with her body until it was found.

Our thoughts go out to Julia’s family and all those who knew her.
