All the things you can do again from next Monday when further Covid-19 restrictions are lifted
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to lift further Covid-19 restrictions from next Monday, 17 May, as part of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.
At a press conference at 5pm today, Mr Johnson will inform the public of what they can and cannot do when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
Here’s all the changes that the Prime Minister is expected to announce at the conference:
1. Hugging
From Monday onwards, Brits will once again be allowed to hug their family and friends.
Social distancing of 1.5 metres will still be required between strangers, but ministers claim that hugging between loved ones will be based on people deciding on their own levels of “risk for their own circumstances”.
Sources from Downing Street told The Telegraph that the PM will tell the public to use their “own judgement” when it comes to hugs.
2. Overnight stays
The PM is also expected to announce that overnight stays will be permitted as of next Monday.
Groups of six or two households will be allowed to mix inside houses, but “people should still keep their distance from those they don’t live with.”
3. Hospitality venues opening indoors
From 12 April, pubs and restaurants were permitted to open their outdoor seating areas to the public. However, as of next Monday, they will once again be allowed to open the inside of their venues.
Venues are expected to only offer table service, and the rule of six will still apply.
4. Groups of 30 outdoors
Since 29 March, Brits have been able to meet outdoors in a group of six or two households. But from 17 May, larger outdoor gatherings of up to 30 people will be permitted.
Social distancing requirements will still be in place at these gatherings.
5. Domestic holidays with people from different households
Domestic holidays with people from the same household has been permitted since 12 April, but next Monday will see domestic holidays being allowed amongst people from different households again.
However, the rule of six will still apply.
6. Travel overseas
After the green list was revealed on Friday, people are beginning to plan their holidays, which they will be able to go on from next Monday onwards.
Amongst the most popular destinations on the list are Portugal, Gibraltar, Iceland, New Zealand and Australia.
7. Weddings
Restrictions on weddings are expected to remain the same, with 30 people being allowed at indoor ceremonies and receptions.
8. Funerals
At the moment, 30 people are permitted at funerals and 15 people at wakes. From Monday onwards, this is set to change.
Funeral bosses will be allowed to decide how many people the venue can fit in, depending on social distancing rules.
The number of mourners permitted at wakes will rise from 15 to 30.
9. Large events
The PM is also expected to announce that Brits will once again be allowed to attend large events.
Indoor events will have a capacity limit of 1,000 people or 50 percent, depending on which one is smaller.
Outdoor events will be allowed to welcome 4,000 people, or 50 percent.
Seated outdoor events like football matches will be allowed 10,000 people or 25 percent capacity.
10. Museums, theatres and cinemas
From 17 May, entertainment venues like museums, theatres and cinemas are expected to be open to the public.
Social distancing and mask-wearing requirements will still be in place.
11. Steam rooms and saunas
Swimming pools and gyms have been open for several weeks, but the PM is set to allow steam rooms and saunas to open from Monday.
12. Indoor exercise classes and group sports
Indoor group sports and exercise classes will also make their return from Monday.
13. Hotels
At the moment, only accommodation that is self-contained has been open, but from 17 May, hotels, hostels and B&Bs will be allowed to welcome back visitors.
Roll on next Monday!
