By New boutique opens on Abbeygate to address the need for more clothes shops in Grimsby
A brand new ladies’ boutique has set up shop on Abbeygate, stocking a range of women’s clothing, footwear, accessories and Lumiere handmade jewellery.
The boutique – named Sadie Pearl – has been established by former House of Fraser manager Sadie Cawley after she recognised a need for more women’s clothes shops in Grimsby.
“Women are fed up of the same old shops in Grimsby. We need change and we need appealing clothes with a reasonably affordable and realistic price point,” she said.
“Freshney Place is depressing. There’s no atmosphere and nothing new or appealing about it. It’s embarrassing, in fact. It needs to have more shops like mine, especially smaller businesses.
“With Covid-19, smaller businesses are really pulling together and helping each other which is needed.”
Sadie worked at House of Fraser for 18 years until it closed down last year, working her way up from a Saturday girl to a manager over the years.
After the department store closed down, she began selling clothes online from home before deciding to open her own shop.
She said: “My boutique is for all ages and sizes, catering from age 16 to 65. It stocks a range of styles from modern to old-school styles, and it caters to going out for lunch or even evening wear. The customers that I will attract are going to be a variety of customers.”
When asked how the pandemic has impacted how people shop and spend their free time, Sadie said: “I think people do want to come out now, they’re fed up of sitting in and scrolling online and wearing loungewear.
“People want to put something nice on to go to the pubs now that they’re opening again. I’m excited because I think it’s the right time to open. I’ve had a lot of people asking when am I opening, what time am I opening, and people seem to really be excited and looking forward to it.
“I absolutely love retail. I love talking to people, I love selling, I love being friendly and making people happy. I love meeting new people and helping them.
“I’ve done it all from scratch. I started from the bottom and I’m working my way up. I hope that by Christmas I’ll have another shop and I will keep building my empire until I’m a millionaire. You never know!”
Sadie Pearl in Abbeygate is open from 10am until 5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
