Police launch manhunt after sexual assault near Doncaster canal
South Yorkshire Police have launched a search for the police after a woman was sexually assaulted near a Doncaster canal.
Officers are appealing for a key witness, who is said to have helped the woman, to come forward.
They are also seeking anyone who may have information on the incident which happened on Saturday 15 May.
It is reported that between 12pm and 1pm, the victim was walking along the Dearne and Dove Canal between Swinton and Mexborough when she was approached from behind by an unknown man.
He is said to have grabbed and sexually assaulted her before being interrupted by a passer-by, who chased him off.
The suspect has been described as white, and wearing a black hoody.
PC Cross said:
“I am keen to identify the good Samaritan who helped the woman, as he later returned and kindly gave the victim a lift home. He could provide key information to assist our investigation.
“The suspect is described as being white and wearing a black hoody. If you witnessed anyone acting suspiciously along the canal path on Saturday, or you are the good Samaritan we are trying to trace, please get in touch.
“Thankfully, the woman wasn’t physically injured but was left shaken by this incident. We’d really appreciate any assistance to help progress our inquiry.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police via the non-emergency numb er 101 quoting incident number 248 of 16 May.
