Habrough footpath closed due to “safety concerns for pedestrians”

A public footpath in Habrough has been temporarily closed by North East Lincolnshire Council and ENGIE because of “safety concerns for pedestrians”.

The footpath, situated between West End Road and Newsham Lane in Habrough, was closed last Thursday due to the safety concerns for pedestrians crossing the train line.

The council made the decision to close the footpath for six months when they realised pedestrians cannot see the oncoming trains as they cross the train line.

During the closure, Network Rail will carry out works to improve visibility for pedestrians.

A statement from the council reads: “Due to the number of carriages on trains passing through the station, when stationed at the platform, pedestrians crossing the path are unable to see oncoming trains on the network and therefore not providing enough sighting time to cross the trainline safely.

“Network Rail will be attending the train line to identify and carry out the required works to improve visibility and create a safe crossing point for pedestrians using the route.

“The footpath will remain closed for a period of six months to allow the necessary works to be carried out.”
