Grimsby town centre to welcome creative programme of free activities and events

A creative programme of free activities and events will be developed and delivered throughout Grimsby town centre in the coming years.

This is all thanks to four leading organisations being selected by Grimsby Creates to lead creative teams who will deliver the events and activities.

North East Lincolnshire Council said the overall aim of the events programme will be to “celebrate shared pride in local origin, heritage, food and future in new, exciting and innovative ways, and increase participation in creative activity.”

Three of the four organisations that were selected are based in North East Lincolnshire.

Creative Start Arts will showcase “ambitious and impactful” visual artwork based on Grimsby’s heritage, while Emergency Exit Arts will deliver a food and culture festival in which local communities and food activists will participate.

Event Show Support will curate an entire programme to showcase Grimsby’s heritage, including our food and buildings, and The Culture House – based in Wellowgate – will deliver “an inspiring mix of creativity, performance, technology and sustainability”.

Councillor Callum Procter, Cabinet member for culture, said: “These are incredibly exciting times ahead for culture in Grimsby. We’ve been able to attract significant local and national cultural organisations, who look set to deliver some fantastic creative activities and events in the coming years.

“As we emerge from the last 12 months of COVID restrictions, it will be work like this that will be incredibly important in the town centre, and help businesses, and local people look forward positively.”

Grimsby Creates was launched as an umbrella organisation to oversee the cultural events in Grimsby over the next three years.

The brand is funded entirely through the Cultural Development Fund (CDF) programme from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and Arts Council England.

According to North East Lincolnshire Council, the programme is providing “a unique opportunity to transform Grimsby into a vibrant town centre where heritage and creativity are enjoyed.”

The Grimsby Creates team and partners will be working with the project teams over the coming months and further details will be announced later in the year.
