New Mayor launches Civic Awards to highlight those making a difference in North East Lincolnshire

After officially accepting his role as the new Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor David Hasthorpe has launched a new award scheme to celebrate those making a difference in the borough.

The Civic Awards 2021 was launched on Friday in a bid to “shine a light on those who are truly making a difference”, with nine award categories focusing on the community, the environment, sport and business in North East Lincolnshire.

Officially launching the North East Lincolnshire Civic Awards, His Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough Cllr David Hasthorpe said: “I stand here today, proud of North East Lincolnshire and its people, from our businesses to our young people, our entrepreneurs and our voluntary and community organisations.

“There is never a better time than now to highlight the positive and celebrate the good.

“I have to say a huge thank you to the sponsors of these first 2021 awards. I was overwhelmed with the hugely positive response when I started to look for our sponsors, who have enabled this idea to become a reality.”

The headline sponsor is burgeoning renewables firm myenergi, which is set to open its flagship new HQ at the Pioneer Business Park near Stallingborough next month.

Kate Tyrell, Corporate Events & Relationship Manager said: “Here at myenergi, we are local people running a local business and in turn we want to recognise and celebrate achievement and congratulate community kindness.

“In an ever-changing landscape, we also want to encourage ourselves and others to do better, aim higher and celebrate each other’s success.”

The Civic Awards are open now and will run for nominations until January 31, 2022.

A ceremony will be held to announce the winners in March 2022.
