A full list of the seven charities to benefit from this year’s Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K
The full list of the charities set to benefit from the 2021 Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K race has been released.
The widely-anticipated event takes place each year and raises thousands of pounds for both local and national charities through its race entries, fundraiser places and other initiatives.
In 2019, the race helped to raise an impressive £18,500.
Lauren Little, stakeholder advisor at Ørsted, said: “Our charity partners are all working hard to make a positive impact to the community. After an incredibly tough year, it’s really important that we give them the support they deserve so they can continue to help make a difference in the lives of local people.”
Neil and Nicola Pattison, race directors from Tape2Tape, said: “We’re delighted this great event can support so many local charities and community groups. We wanted this event to be more than just a race, and with the support of so many, we have achieved this.”
This year’s seven charities are:
- Harbour Place
This charity opened its doors in 1996 and works to help some of the most vulnerable people in society. In 2011, the charity started working closely with rough sleepers, and runs a night shelter which operates 365 days a year.
- Marie Curie
This long-standing national charity provides support and care for those living with terminal illnesses and their families.
- St Andrew’s Hospice
St Andrew’s Hospice provides free compassionate care and support to people of all ages who are affected by a life-limiting or terminal condition.
They offer overnight stays and respite, symptom control, rehabilitation and end of life care, as well as other services such as counselling, physiotherapy and bereavement support. As well as nursing and medical care, the charity offers practical advice, emotional support and a comprehensive wellbeing programme.
- The Health Tree Foundation
The Health Tree Foundation works in partnership with the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, providing hospital and community services across North and North East Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
- RNLI
The RNLI is a charity of volunteers who save lives at sea. Powered primarily by donations, their search and rescue service has been saving lives for nearly 200 years.
- Blue Lights Brigade
The Blue Lights Brigade originally set up as a volunteering agency offering volunteer response support in emergencies and crisis situations, taking on ex-forces and emergency service staff as their volunteers. They played a vital role in helping people in North East Lincolnshire when the pandemic hit, particularly with shielding hubs.
- A Platform To Talk
A Platform To Talk is a local community Facebook group that has been set up by local people to provide a platform for people to talk, seek help and gain advice for mental health issues. They will donate their share of the charity funds to the local Samaritans while they await full charitable status.
Each of the seven charities has been given a stretch of the race to marshal and will be staffing it with their own volunteers.
A pound from every race entry will be put into a pot and shared between the seven charities.
The race will take place on Sunday 18 July 2021, with staggered start times between 9am and 11am.
