Humberside Fire and Rescue incredible 275 mile bike ride!

Paul Wainwright has worked for Humberside Fire and Rescue for over 17 years.

In an exclusive interview Paul spoke Gi Media: ‘i’ve done long distance cycling myself before and the idea came to me through lockdown. I put a route together and decided to ask fellow staff if they wanted to get on board with the idea of a sponsored bike ride.

‘In total there were 13 of us which took part in the cycle coving 275 miles in 22 hours stopping off at all 31 fire stations in the Humberside brigade.

‘We set off on Saturday morning at 4:30am and finished at 2am on Sunday morning.’

Paul added: ‘the atmosphere at the stations was unbelievable, we were overwhelmed with the support – people were cheering and ringing cow bells!’

A group of staff, friends and ex-members of staff from Humberside Fire and Rescue biked across 32 fire stations in the area in just 24 hours!

So far the team have managed to raise over £5,000 for Hull and East Yorkshire Mind.

Marie-Louise Robinson, Community Fundraiser for Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, said: ‘It is just phenomenal what the team at Humberside Fire and Rescue have done and us all at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind are so grateful’.

She added: ‘These donations are going to allow local people get the help and support they need. It allows us to continue to run our 27/4 helpline (0800 138 0990).

‘Not only that, the HFR team have helped raise awareness of mental health, particularly in men, and help break the stigma to get people talking about mental health.

There’s still time to donate here:
