Council issue warning on potential disruption to bin collections in North East Lincolnshire
As the cases of Covid-19 are increasing every day in the borough, the Council are warning people that bin collections in North East Lincolnshire, along with some other services, could be disrupted.
So far this year, there has been little disruption to waste and recycling collections – but with the more transmissible Delta variant of coronavirus spreading throughout the borough, this could change.
A statement from the Council reads: “Plans are in place to keep services running, including bringing in colleagues from other parts of the Council to cover absences.
“If bins are not emptied in your street, please do not call us. Put your bins out the next day and we will empty them as soon as we can.
“Today (Tuesday) it is likely we will not complete a blue bin recycling round in the areas around Isaac’s Hill in Cleethorpes.
“Waste crews are key workers and changed the way they work during the early stages of the pandemic.”
A series of safety measures were put in place for waste and recycling collection staff to limit the spread of the virus.
These include daily health checks and regular Covid-19 tests, keeping crews apart, extra cleaning of surfaces, disinfecting vehicle cabs, strict limits on the number of staff in depot buildings, and changes to the ways staff leave and arrive at the depot.
Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for transport and environment at the Council, said: “Our staff are not immune from the virus. Like most organisations, we are adapting what we do to keep services running during this period of uncertainty.
“Our crews will do all they can to keep rounds running as normal, but if staff must self-isolate to limit the spread of the virus, it could have a knock-on effect on our services and lead to some disruption.”
