Don’t be alarmed if your phone goes off today
Millions of people across the UK could receive an emergency phone alarm as the Government tests a new alert system.
The emergency alerts are run by the Government and will warn you if there’s a danger to life nearby.
And ahead of its launch in summer 2021, a number of planned tests will take place on Tuesday (June 22) across the UK.
Some mobile phone networks in the UK are testing the emergency alerts between 1pm and 2pm.
Android user, may get a test alert meaning your device may make a loud siren-like sound.
The alert will say: “This is a mobile network operator test of the Emergency Alerts service.
You do not need to take any action. To find out more, search for gov.uk/alerts”.
The sound and vibration will last for about 10 seconds.
Stop what you’re doing and follow the instructions in the alert.
Sometimes an alert will include a phone number or a link to the GOV.UK website for more information.
