Holly Mumby-Croft meets with Prime Minister to discuss steel industry trade today.
Boris Johnson met with Scunthorpe MP Holly Mumby-Croft to discuss what needs to be done to further protect the steel industry.
Holly said: ‘I joined Andrew Percy MP, Martin Vickers MP and other Steel MPs in a meeting with the Prime Minister this afternoon to discuss the significant concerns we have regarding the independent Trade Remedy Authorities’ (TRA) recommendations on Steel Safeguards.
‘I was able to be really clear to the PM about the importance of this issue to our area. He understands the complexities of the issue and assured us that he shares our commitment to the future of the British steel industry.
‘The PM is an ally of Steel, and many will remember his government’s recent support for the works while we secured a buyer.
‘I will continue to be completely frank with the government on this and work with Britsh Steel and UK Steel to lobby the government on this important topic. I know that many are following this closely and I hope to have more to update in the coming days and weeks.’

International trade minister Ranil Jayawardena warned any extension could lead to legal challenge, with the warning of “throwing the baby out with the bathwater” and losing all protection.
Strong calls were made to ensure UK steel is used in all domestic infrastructure projects, with the importance of green steel stressed and closing off carbon intensive cheap imports.
