Brave Mayor to embark on skydive in bid to raise money for St Andrew’s Hospice

The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor David Hasthorpe, will bravely take to the skies next month in a bid to raise £1,500 for local charity St Andrew’s Hospice.

On Saturday 21 August, Councillor Hasthorpe will leap 15,000 feet out of a plane during a skydive at Hibaldstow Airfield.

Andy’s, which helps young members of the local community who are suffering from life-limiting conditions, is one of his three chosen charities for the Mayoral year.

Councillor Hasthorpe, who is thought to be the first Mayor to take on a skydive, said: “St Andrew’s and Andy’s Hospices in Great Grimsby do such a wonderful job in looking after our residents in the, sometimes, final days of their lives.

“I hope that neither I, or any member of friends or family are ever in need of their services, but I truly believe in supporting their ever-increasing costs to give such dignity and care to those leaving the bosom of their loved ones.”

“When I became Deputy Mayor in 2019, I promised that I would undertake a skydive for the hospice. Now I am making good on that promise, and I hope my JustGiving page continues to show the tremendous support that has begun so well,” he added.

Emily Aitken, fundraising and events lead at St Andrew’s Hospice, said: “Our community means the world to us, and knowing that Councillor Hasthorpe has chosen Andy’s as one of the Mayoral charities this year gives us such a boost. We are absolutely thrilled that he has decided to skydive in aid of Andy’s and the children we care for, and we are so excited to see him take to the sky!”
