Covid rates in Grimsby and Scunthorpe begin to fall

North East Lincolnshire recorded 57 new Covid cases in the latest government numbers from Tuesday 27 July, with North Lincolnshire recording 53 new cases.

This number is a fall from Monday’s number which saw 88 new cases.

According to Public Health England there have now been 15,250 Covid-19 cases across the area since the pandemic was officially declared last March.

In the seven days ending July 22 North East Lincolnshire’s average was at 805.3 cases per 100,00, a decrease from 908.7 the week prior, way above the national average of 417 cases per 100,000.

However, North Lincolnshire’s case rate is now at 376.7 per 100,000 which is now below the national average.

As of Tuesday morning there were 29 Covid patients at Princess Diana Wales hospital with 3 in the ICU.

A further 10 patients are at Scunthorpe General, with 2 also in the ICU.

There has been one new death in North East Lincolnshire, putting the death toll of those who died within 28 days of a positive test at 276.

The fall in infection rates and the slower hospital admission rate may be caused by the vaccine.

In North East Lincolnshire 107,538 people have had their first dose of the vaccine, with 120,000 in North Lincolnshire having had their first vaccine dose.

Government data up to July 26 shows that of the 84,112,856 Covid jabs given in the UK.
