North East Lincolnshire Council provides 10 top tips to enjoy Cleethorpes safely

With the summer months upon us and the Covid-19 restrictions being eased, more people are visiting Cleethorpes to enjoy the things the resort has to offer, from sunbathing on the award-winning beach, enjoying Crazy Golf or other activities with the kids, or partaking in paddleboarding.

Now, North East Lincolnshire Council has provided 10 tips to enjoy Cleethorpes safely. Read them below:

  • Plan your visit: There’s plenty of information about things to do and places to see in and around the resort on this website – have a look around!
  • Travel: there’s plenty of car parking around the resort, but better still, why not get on your bike, or come by public transport? You can hire a bike from the Cycle Hub near the train station to enjoy a ride around the resort, or leave your bike safely there. If you live nearby, make the most of the fresh air and walk into the resort. It’s only about an hour’s walk from the centre of Grimsby to get to the lovely beach!
  • Our lovely Blue Flag Award winning beaches: 4 miles of golden sands await anyone visiting the resort. But this takes some looking after!
    • Did you know that the beach is raked daily by the Council to prevent litter being drawn back into the Humber. If it is too busy to continue raking, staff will park up and litter pick instead.
    • Did you know, our Resort Hub on the Central Prom has two beach wheelchairs you can hire for those less able to walk?
    • Please don’t have BBQs on the beach – we see lots of people getting feet burned when they step on BBQs that have been buried in the sand. They can also cause fires if they’re not disposed of correctly.
  • While we’re on the subject of litter, you can recycle on the go: Drop your plastic bottles in our stunning recycling sculptures, Hammy the Haddock on Central Prom and the Globe on North Prom, or use one of the many recycling bins. Check you are putting the right things in the right bin. If the bins are full, please take your litter home. There are more than 60 bins along the promenade and our regular patrols are out. If you litter, you will be fined £100.
  • Our promenades. Why not have a wander from North Prom, where you can enjoy the new exercise furniture, past the historic pier (which, if you didn’t know is only about a third of its original length following a fire in 1903), and on to Central Prom and Lower Kingsway, where you the children can play hopscotch! There’s plenty of local businesses to support too!
  • Dogs: are banned from the beach between Wonderland and Cleethorpes Leisure Centre until September 30. Anyone found walking them faces a £100 fine. If you have canine friends, there’s plenty of other places you can walk them – if you want beach, then head down to Humberston area, or there’s more than 50 local parks and open spaces to enjoy.
  • Explore in safety: Be aware of the high tide times so you don’t get cut off. Stay from the mud so you don’t get stuck. Resort officers are putting up signs daily to warn people to stay away from dangerous areas. Take notice of them! Lots of people get stuck in the mud, but you don’t want to be the one having to call on the RNLI do you?
  • Look after our wildlife: Cleethorpes is an internationally important place for wading birds and other wildlife. Many species of birds make their home in the saltmarsh. Did you know, saltmarshes are a unique natural habitat and play an important role in fighting climate change, capturing more carbon dioxide than rainforests. Please stick to the main footpaths so you don’t disturb the birds.
  • Support our local businesses: we have a number of local independent shops and eateries as we as high street essentials. Why not explore the offers and support our local businesses!
  • Be COVID safe: COVID-19 is still with us. Whilst the numbers are still relatively high, please respect each other when you’re queuing for ice cream or that bag of donuts. Some places may advise to still wear masks and social distance, and some people may be hesitant about using crowded spaces, so please be patient.
